Did I die?
One of the downsides to keeping a blog is being fastidious about new content. This is something they say in publishing, too. Always have a new product/entry in the pipeline, and never let a gap form in your release schedule. Just look at how James Patterson does it. He releases an average of eleven books a year, so as soon as readers have finished one, he has new content in their hands.
I’m not a massive fan of this approach. As a culture, we’ve become too accustomed to this constant drip feed of stuff, making us impatient and more tolerant of substandard material. Listen, I write quickly, but I could never write fast enough to satisfy the atrophied attention spans of the general public. It doesn’t help that when you take a break to do other things — like work like a dog ahead of a deadline, as I’ve done for the past weeks — people automatically assume you’re dead or moved into a Unabomber shack somewhere.
So, no, I’m not dead, and the blog hasn’t been abandoned. I had to prioritize, and something had to give with two major releases coming. I’m a regular presence on various message boards and Discord servers, and I all but disappeared from those, too. Work always comes first.
While it’s been frustrating at times, these are also exciting times. I haven’t had anything new out for a while, which was never intentional. Now I have time to rectify that and remind people I’m still around.
