Enjoying gaming again

My enjoyment of tabletop roleplaying games comes and goes. At the moment, it’s on an upswing, as I have several irons in the fire, from one-shots to the Frontier Scum campaign I talked about last time. And more ideas come all the time because I can’t help myself.

I once read that Clive Barker used to keep folders of ideas, and every time he came up with something new, it was like, “Is this a book, a story, a movie, a play, or a toy idea?” He’d sort them out accordingly. And I remember thinking when I heard this that it must be nice to know that whatever you create will eventually reach an audience.

I used to believe that Barker was unusually fortunate, but thanks to the indie press revolution, anything from gaming to novels is open for anyone with the time and skills necessary to bring them to life. We all have Clive Barker’s freedom.

Not everything I come up with is suitable for fiction. I apply those ideas to other areas, often in gaming. Many times, people aren’t on the same wavelength as I am, but other times, they tune in right away. It’s on those latter occasions that I am most grateful for the opportunities the contemporary era has allowed us.

I wish I had room to discuss everything in this space, but your time is limited, and so is mine. I hope you’re having a great time being creative as well.
