When in Rome...
Once I realized how tight things were getting on the calendar going into Q4 2024, I understood that much of the roleplaying stuff I wanted to do wasn’t doable in the time available. As a result, I decided to hold off on anything significant until the beginning of the year.
The talented Paul Elliott’s game of Roman Britain, 43AD, is the first thing out of the gate. I embraced his game’s dark, violent, and spooky atmosphere for something I’m calling Blood and Iron.
When Rome’s might meets pagan wrath, no one escapes unscathed.
Blood and Iron is a campaign using the gritty 43AD system, set in the savage wilds of Roman Britain. The legions hold the line at the fort of Danum, but the Brigantian tribes across the river wage a relentless war. As part of a ragtag contubernium, you’ll face brutal skirmishes, unravel dark mysteries, and encounter ancient pagan forces threatening to tear apart both sides. Will you hold fast to Rome’s iron grip, or will the blood of Britain’s past consume you? Gritty combat, tense roleplay, and creeping horror in an unforgiving world!
This will also be the first game I run as a paid GM, making the experience intriguing. I’ve decided to offer something different in a world overrun by Dungeons & Dragons games. Sure, it still has a whiff of the fantastical, but it’s not a wholesale invention. Legionaries fought and died in Britannia by the thousands; those stories are worth telling.
